A New Jersey Nonprofit · Keeping Families Together
Housing, dignity, and support formothers & children.
Independence Way stands beside women with intellectual and mental health disabilities — offering rental assistance and supportive services that help vulnerable families stay together and build independence.

Our Mission
A promise of stability during the hardest transitions.
We keep families together.
Our mission is to help keep families together by promoting housing stability, increasing independence, and connecting families to long-term community resources and support systems.
We support mothers with special needs.
We serve women with intellectual and mental health disabilities, and mothers raising children who often have developmental or special needs of their own — meeting each family where they are.
We partner for stronger care.
Independence Way partners with the Division of Child Protection and Permanency (DCP&P) to strengthen and stabilize vulnerable families through coordinated support services and community-based care.
What We Do
Practical support, delivered with care.
Rental Assistance
Direct rental support that offsets the ongoing cost of housing, giving mothers a stable home base while they navigate a lengthy application and eligibility process.
Supportive Services
Wraparound care, coordination, and essential family supports — helping mothers increase their independence and build the daily routines that keep children thriving.
DCP&P Partnership
In coordination with the Division of Child Protection and Permanency, we strengthen and stabilize vulnerable families through community-based care.
How the Grant Helps
Bridging the gap during a critical transition.
Mothers apply for services through the New Jersey Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD), while children apply for developmental disability services through PerformCare.
Because the application and eligibility process can be lengthy, grant funding offsets the ongoing costs of care, housing, and essential family supports — filling the financial gap during this critical transition period.
